Apple Store Why Not A Linux Shop
by Nathan on Nov.30, 2009, under Uncategorized
I was listening to Twit this morning while they were discussing Apple Stores and why people go into them. All of the speakers on Twit said people go to Apples Stores because they get to play with the computers and talk to knowledgeable people. While this is true, but I think the main reason is that Apple computers are different from what most people are used to. They get to break away from Windows and try something new. Then if they like it, they can purchase it right there. I don’t think its the fact that the computers are there to use, but more the fact that the computers are different.
This also got me thinking, what if there was a Linux Shop. A place with computers set up running different kinds of distributions, showing off Open Office, InkSkape, The Gimp, and many other open source programs. It would be just like an Apple Store, but for open source. Computers could be sold at a cheap price because of the free operating systems. The employees could answer Linux questions, and help new comers. I think this sounds like a good idea, but not a good business idea. Maybe something Makers Local could do.
Phreaknic 13

Phreaknic was over Halloween weekend this year and man what a great time it was. We had the photobooth up and working again, many Makers Local people had great costumes, and we partied! Saturday morning Matt and I got up and cooked pancakes for all the hungovers and got some donations. Overall I think the weekend went great, though it was almost a month back now, so I don’t really remember details. This year I remember taking almost all of these pictures, which is an improvement over last year.
Israel and NYC Pics

Last month I had to go on a business trip to Israel. On my way back I had an 8hr layover at JFK and jumped a taxi into the city.
Israel was a pretty cool place to visit. Chicks are fine, and out number the guys by like 3 to 1. The hotel I stayed in was right on the beach and the Mediterranean Sea was beautiful. One day I got to go on a tour around the Sea of Galilee and some other Holy places. Other than being there on a business trip it was a pretty cool place to go.
So I only got to spend about 4hrs in NYC but it was awesome to see. I walked around Time Square most of that time, then made my way to 5th Ave. Found lots of cool places that I have only heard about on TV. I can’t wait to go back sometime and spend more time.
Why Guys Don’t Want To Be Friends With Girls Who Breaks Up With Them…
by Nathan on Nov.24, 2009, under Uncategorized
Found this comment on Reddit and thought it was a great way to explain this.
I know a girl who broke up with a guy and she told him she wanted to “still be friends.” He said, “No thanks.” She wondered why he couldn’t fall back to being just friends after they had a romantic relationship. I came up with the ”McDonalds Analogy” to try and explain it in a simple way that would help all women understand this tough question.
Imagine if you went to McDonalds a lot and ordered a Big Mac Combo meal. A Big Mac, Large Fries and a Coke. You really like this meal. One day, you pull up to the drivethrough and order the Big Mac Combo meal and the girl tells you, “I’m sorry – you can have the Big Mac and the Coke, but you can’t get fries with that anymore.” You think about this for a moment, and sure – the Big Mac is the centerpiece of the meal, but McDonalds has some really good fries and you like their fries with your meal. So you say, “I’ve been able to get fries with that before, why can’t I have fries with my Big Mac combo anymore?” The girls says, ”Well, I just think it is better if you only have the Big Mac and the Coke from here on out.”
At this point, a lot of guys are going to go to Wendy’s or BK and see if they can get fries with their combo at that drivethrough window. But there are some guys who REALLY like McDonalds Big Macs and they might think, “If I keep coming here and ordering the Big Mac and Coke, maybe she’ll change her mind and give me some fries with that later.” So they will keep on getting the combo without the fries until the deal breaker happens: One day that guy is going to order the Big Mac and Coke and then he’s going to pull up a little bit to pay, and someone else is going to pull up to the drivethrough speaker and order the “Big Mac Combo” and he is going to hear the girl say, “Would you like fries with that?”
That’s why guys don’t like to be friends with a girl who breaks up with them.
The Fourth Kind
by Nathan on Nov.10, 2009, under Uncategorized
Last night I was headed to see Relient K at The Station 2. As it turns out Relient K is a christian band, and apparently played earlier than Raymond and I got there. Oh well we talked around The Station 2 for a bit then decided to check out what movies were playing. It being 8pm we were kind of limited, but finally decided on The Fourth Kind. I’ve been out of the movie/TV loop for the past month, so I really had no idea what this movie was about.
The movie starts with Milla Jovovich explaining how the footage you are about to see, my be graphic but it is the real footage and you must decide what you believe. Then the movies takes you on a half real/half reenactment journey of what happened to a few people in Nome Alaska. Under hypnosis these people would remember/hallucinate things that happen to them while they slept.
The main purpose of the movie is to explain what happen to Milla Jovovich character and for the audience to decide what they believe. It was a very creepy movie. Some of the “real” videos were very graphic and seemed very real. I don’t know what I believe, but just to be safe, I’m going to stay away from Nome Alaska.
