Balloon Rides
by Nathan on May.29, 2008, under Uncategorized
So last weekend was Memorial Day Weekend, which meant I didn’t have to work on Monday! Friday I went to the shop and worked on wiki stuff. Saturday was about the same. Sunday I stopped by while waiting for Tandy to get done with her other obligations. We had decided the night before to drive to Decatur for balloon rides. Although we didn’t get to go on a long ride we did get to go up in a hot air balloon.
I must say it is kind of freakish when your standing right next to a balloon and it starts filling up with hot air. They stand up and feel almost like they are going to fall over. But they don’t, they just stand there looking awesome. Then off they go riding the air waves. Its spectacular to see. I would have to say the coolest balloon we saw was the Energizer Bunny. I watched a discovery channel show about it a few months back. Apparently it is the worlds largest hot air balloon. Take a look at all the picture I took. It was a really fun day. My Flickr
Norton Anti Virus
by Nathan on May.19, 2008, under Uncategorized
Let me just explain my hatred for Norton Anti Virus. See because my work computer is on a government network, I have to follow their rules, and one of these rules is letting the government install whatever they want and configure it however they want. Well in this case it happens to be Norton Anti Virus Corporate Edition. Friday when I left I went to restart my computer but being Windows meant of course there were updates that needed to be installed. So I said sure install and shut down. When today rolled around I came in and started up my computer, logged in. Noticing there was a lot of activity going on with the hard drive I began searching and found Norton scanning my drive. Well its been about 45min and its still scanning. What nice about the way Norton scans is that if you want to do anything you are SOL because Norton is using all the systems resources.
Why can’t we (meaning every Windows user) have an Anti Virus that respects our usage and I don’t know….only scan when I’m not doing anything. Like maybe wait till the screen saver comes on or something. Jesus Christ this isn’t a big deal, stop using my computer when I’m trying to use it. Stupid machines never respect my authority.
Movie Sequels
by Nathan on May.14, 2008, under Uncategorized
Recently there has been an influx of movie sequels. Since apparently Hollywood has no idea how to make new movies we are stuck with either sequels or comic based movies. In the last year we have seen many sequels hit the theaters, movies like Rambo, Rocky Balboa, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the list goes on and on. Some of the sequels have been made as part of a chain, like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End or Shrek the Third these movies are fine.
What starts pissing me off is when Hollywood decides to take a movie like Donnie Darko and make a sequel without the original authors approval or knowledge. Not only that but they are taking shitty early 90′s movies and making sequels to them. Say hello to Point Break 2. Now that we have Sylvester Stallone back why not bring back Swayze and Reeves? I mean they arn’t doing anything anyways right.
Come on Hollywood come up with something new, I’m sick of seeing the same old ideas in the movie theater. Except of course Crank 2 which is just going to rock, other than that make something new.

Some MySQL Tricks
by Nathan on May.08, 2008, under Uncategorized
Since I have started using a wiki as a blog, I can do all kind of crazy stuff. Like instead of using a lifestreaming page as a home page I can put all that life streaming stuff on a wiki page. Take a look at My Twitter Feed it is an rss page with my twitter update. I will over time be creating more of these pages and linking them all together. I also can now use this for taking notes. Such as cool tricks I learned with mysql MySQL Tricks. Anyway as I start using this more it will start looking better and be more useful than just a blog.
